Sometimes

Sometimes the drains in the bathroom turn into fountains.
It starts with the sound of hissing that gradually gets louder.
Underneath the hissing sound of escaping air there is the more subtle sound of scratching.
What comes forth is not water, but insects.
Roaches fill the sink and spill onto the floor. The sound of their bodies moving against each other and the tiles is like running water.
Mosquitos fly out like a geyser. The hum of their wings is like the hum of a neon light.

It's times like this when I just close the door and wait for it to be over.
